3D A Trip to India
-We reviewed some travel vocabulary and we did a listening on Delhi and some T/F activities as follow up.
-The grammar point was asking for and making recommendations and students practiced the activities on pages 30-31 while describing their home city or town. We also focused on intonation.
-After the break we practiced giving and receiving recommendations with Justin.
Homework: write a composition giving a friend recommendations on what to do and what not to do while visiting your favourite place.

3A, Thursday's class
On Thursday we finished unit 3A.
-we revised some phrasal verbs in small group doing an oral activity
-we corrected "help with grammar" page 25
-we practiced entonation and the differences in pronunciation when using the PPS(Present Perfect Simple) and the PS (Past Simple).
After the break we worked on the song Viva la Vida by Coldplay. Visit the general blog for a copy of the activity and a new song here.

Lesson 3A (Tuesday 17th November 2009)
In the one hour session before Justin came to our class we started by listening again to Roxana Saberi's text and correcting the questions.
Then we had a taste of phrasal verbs with the first page of unit 3 where students did activities 1 and 2 including the listening by Sam and Cintia.

This week's work
On Tuesday we finally finished unit 2. We covered lesson 2D and work on showing concern, giving and responding to advice (we focused on intonation)
We also had a look at notices and practice in class. Students had to leave a notice in the blog board (click ) for homework. I handed out some photocopies on the topics, if you are interested and did not come to class, please ask for one.
On Thursday we started with a listening practice on journalist Roxana Saberi (click here for more information) and then students had 40 minutes to complete the progress test for unit 2.
After an early break we worked on the song "You can't hurry love", the lyrics are at the end of the book and we did an activity where studets had to choose between two words and underline the one they listened to. We also had a look at a karaoke version (check general blog)
Have a nice weekend.

Lesson 2D
Today we ended lesson 2C by doing activities 8 and the Gradable and Strong adjective game board (students worked in groups of 3 or 4 and had to complete sentences or talk for 30 seconds on different topics.)
Then we moved to unit 2D What's the matter?.
We covered activities 1, 2, 3 and 4.
Homework. I will leave a post with three "problems" here and you have to show concern and give advice on one of them. Please indicate on the comment section the problem you are writing about and your name.
You also have to do activities 1a, 2a and 4a from Review, page 23.

2B Ready Steady Eat
On Thursday 22nd we started with an activity on world rules and learnt about what things you can, cannot, have to, do not have to or are allowed in different countries.
-Then we started lesson 2B and we moved to the kitchen. We learnt and talked about food, meals, kitchen equipment, different ways of cooking, etc. We focused on the food and meals in Spain and whether or not we had cooking patterns.
We covered activities 1 and 2 pages 18.-After the break we read What's for dinner? (page 18) and completed activities 3 and 4a (true or false)
-To finish off the day we review the differences betwenn the Present Continious and the Present Simple (page 19)
On Tuesday 27th we discussed ready meals and fast food. We talked about how eating habbits have changed.

2A Slow down

To start with we had elections to choose your class representatives.
We finished unit 1 with some revision and the prepared homework.
Homework was set: click here to get the photocopies I gave in class and here for the anwers. You have to produce and informal letter following instructios on activity 5a&b. The due date is Wednesday 21st.
We also did some presentations on the Happiness Club.
Today (Monday 18th), we started unit 2 and focused on lesson 2A SLOW DOWN.We covered nearly the whole lesson 2A. We talked about slowing down things and what people's jobs are like. We did pages 16 and 17 (activities 1,2,3, 4 and 6) Activity 6 was to be completed at home as HOMEWORK.

1D At a Barbacue
No, we did not go have a barbacue in class but we used that situation as an excuse to work on question tags. Pages 12 and 13. We also did the review activity on page 13.

1C The best medicine
-Today I handed the corrected mock exam to the students who attended the lesson.
We did lesson 1C pages 10-11 The topic was: What do you do to relax?
Listening: Jeremy and his wife had freeind over for dinner and told us about what they do to relax. (we focused on sentence stress)
Reading: Laugh? I feel better already! We revise and learn new adjectives and got to know about Laughter Clubs.

Mock exam
-On Thursday the group was taken by surprised when I gave them a mock test. I needed to check writing skills and I gave the students a modified version of a "selectividad" exam that took place in Castilla la Mancha in 2008. In case you could not attend the class you can download it clicking on: mock exam. I gave the students 1 hour and 15 minutes maximum, no dictionaries were allowed. If you are not attending lessons you can emial me the composition.

1B Love it or hate it.
On Thursday 24th
-We talked about the reading book for this year The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time (click on the title and get all the infomation) and the we discussed 1) What kind of books do you like reading? When and where do you read? What are you reading at the moment?
-Then we moved to lesson 1B, pages 8-9 and and we covered the Vocabulary (1,2)
-Autumn is already here, athough the weather does not seem to care. We had a look a the post on the general blog (click here) .
On Tuesday 29th we finished lesson 1B.
-We started off with a communicative activity on celebrity gossips where students had to match sentences with 5 different celebrities and then check with their partners whether they were right or wrong.
-Back to the book we did the reading on page 8(activities 3-4) and talked about mobile phones and discuss the pros and cons of their use.
-Grammar: Positive and negative verb forms, words and phrases
-Listening: our friends Jeremy and Amy shared their views on flying, cooking, football on tv and customer service phone lines with us. Students had to identify the speaker, whether he/she loved o hated the activity and give two reasons.

-We started working on some vocabulary related to the weekend and revise short answers and frequency adverbs (act. 1 page 6).
-Reading: The secret of happiness (continues on page 127). We discussed reasons to be happy and read the text.
-Listening. We listened to Sarah, Jenny and Greg and practice listening for gist (general idea) and listening for detail. The grammar point we covered was interrogation.
-To finish the unit we worked otn the Get ready get it right section (page 7)

Back to School
Well, you survived your first week.Last week I did a presentation on the course and how the School and the evaluation for this year worked. We also got to know a bit about each other, you are quite a big group and there are many people you still do not know, do not worry, I am in the same situation.
